Burnout and poor team performance can negatively impact the quality of service provided to clients in veterinary businesses. Research published in the Journal of Veterinary Medical Education found that burnout among veterinary professionals was associated with decreased client satisfaction and increased risk of medical errors (Journal of Veterinary Medical Education, 2019).
Veterinary businesses facing burnout and poor team performance often experience higher turnover rates among their staff. According to a survey conducted by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), turnover rates in veterinary practices are significantly higher than in other industries, with burnout being a key contributing factor (AAHA, 2020).
According to a report by the National Healthcare Retention & RN Staffing Report, turnover rates for registered nurses in healthcare organizations reached 17.2% in 2020, with burnout cited as a leading cause of turnover (National Healthcare Retention & RN Staffing Report, 2020).
Research conducted by Gallup found that disengaged employees in healthcare settings are more likely to report higher rates of absenteeism and turnover, resulting in increased healthcare costs for organizations. Gallup estimates that actively disengaged employees cost the U.S. healthcare system up to $33.6 billion annually in lost productivity (Gallup, 2020).
A study by the International Coach Federation (ICF) found that 86% of companies who invested in coaching for their employees reported recouping their investment and more, with 96% of organizations indicating they would continue to use coaching in the future. This suggests that coaching in the workplace is an effective strategy for improving employee performance and overall productivity (ICF Global Coaching Study, 2020).
